Ocean City MD Beach & Venue Music + Noise Rule

To ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all beachgoers, residents, and visitors, loud music and noise must comply with the Town of Ocean City noise regulations.

General Noise Standards

• It is unlawful to make, cause, or continue any loud, unnecessary, unnatural, or unusual noise that disturbs, annoys, or endangers the comfort, peace, and safety of others at any time.

• Music, speeches, or amplified sound must not be audible at a distance of 50 feet from the source.

Quiet Hours

• From 10:00pm to 7:00 a.m., no noise should be heard at a distance of 50 feet from its source, whether on the beach or near a structure.

Amplified Sound & Equipment

• While Ocean City does not provide specific permit guidance for beach weddings, * all sound equipment and music should be kept at a level that does not carry beyond 50 feet.

• Any loud or amplified music that could disturb the peace or be heard at a distance greater than 50 feet may be subject to enforcement by the Ocean City Police Department.

Disturbance Prevention

• Ocean City’s noise ordinance is designed to protect the comfort and safety of all residents and visitors; excessive or disruptive music can result in citations or penalties.

📌 How This Applies to Weddings / Events

✔ Ceremony music (live or recorded) should be at a comfortable level that is not audible beyond the immediate ceremony area.
✔ Reception or DJ music (if held at a venue) must respect local noise distances and quiet hours.
✔ Communicate quiet hours and limits to all vendors and DJs in your contracts.

• The Town of Ocean City enforces a strict noise ordinance prohibiting disruptive noises around town, which applies equally near beachfront events and venues.
